MUSE
24 x 66
Steel
2007
This is my first sculpture in many years and is directly related to the my recent digital paintings. The figure is derived from a software program called "Poser," which I have used extensively to create characters for my wall work. Ironically, in my paintings the figures are "dimensional," occupying a complex virtual space. "Muse" which occupies "real space" is completely flat.
I could offer some thoughts on the meaning of this work, but the ideas that occur to you as viewer are the most interesting ones to me. If you would like to engage in a little dialogue about "Muse" please send me an e-mail, give me a call or drop by our gallery in Beacon.
I wish to thank Kirsten Kucer for encouraging me to create something for this show, Jan Roggerman and his staff for doing a nice job of fabricating the piece, Thomas Huber for helping with installation and Nancy Bauch for putting together this great blog.
