GOD ISN’T WATCHING
Mixed media and found objects
2007
For this exhibit I have chosen to wrap four trees along a rough road
as visual reminders of the devastation of loss, death and destruction.
Roadside memorials are a way of commemorating death and memory
Each tree expresses four different events of loss.
Accident is dedicated to the memory of a little girl who was killed on the road I travel each day. The others entitled War in Iraq; The Next War: Iran and Demolition of Palestinian Homes refer to continuing tragedy.
Sheilah Rechtschaffer is a landscape painter. Most of the time, she goes to beautiful places and draws or paints what’s there, exploring an inner landscape of specific place. She is also a political activist. In this work, the landscape reveals a theme of opposite thought.
